Andrew Barton Paterson
Andrew Barton Paterson was an Australian poet, author and journalist. He was born on 17th February 1864 at Narrambla in South Wales in Australia. He wrote many ballads and poems about Australian life, focusing particularly on the rural and outback areas. The plot of most of his stories and poems is the district of Binalong, New South Wales where he spent much of his childhood.
Paterson’s notable poem includes “Waltzing Matilda”, “The Man from Snowy River“, and Clancy of the Overflow” One of his notable work is “Saltbush Bill, J.P., and Other Verses”. He also published a collection of bush ballads named “old Bush Songs”. He also wrote two novels- “An Outback Marriage” (1906) and “The Shearer’s Colt” (1936). Patterson wrote a book narrating his experience as a war reporter, named “Happy Dispatches” (1934). For Children, he wrote, “The Animals Noah Forget” (1933).
Paterson died of a heart attack in Sydney on 5 February 1941 at 76. Long after his death, in 1981, a postage stamp was issued by Australia Post to honour Paterson.
