A Brief History of India My Country Pledge
Pydimari Venkata Subba Rao was the author of the pledge. He was a Telegu poet and wrote it in 1962. He felt the need for a pledge to increase nationalism among the students.
Subba Rao forwarded the pledge to the then-nationalist leader Tenneti Viswanadham and he forwarded it to the then Education Minister of the state Andhra Pradesh, P.V.G. Raju. The pledge was adopted nationally in 1964 and was translated into seven Indian languages.
An interesting fact about the pledge is that Subba Rao was unaware of the development happening with the pledge. After his retirement, he heard his granddaughter reciting it from her textbook. Then he realised the status of the pledge. The HRD Ministry now acknowledges him as the author of the pledge.
